A couple years ago, I read an article about the last days of film critic Roger Ebert’s life, as told by his wife Chaz.
The day before Ebert died, he told his wife he’d been visiting another world as he went in and out of consciousness. I don’t know what Ebert was seeing, nor exactly what his description of our world means, but it really struck me and has stayed with me. I store it in my mind next to Steve Job’s last words which were, according to his sister, “Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow.'”
I believe that this thing called life that we’re all in is far more incredible and mysterious than meets the eye.
Ebert’s word’s for some reason trigger in me a voice that whispers, “Don’t let life become just about paying bills and career and responsibilities and all the things that life requires – life is too wonderful and mysterious to let it become mundane. Investigate life’s mysteries. Try and figure out life’s higher purpose. Don’t be afraid to get off track and explore for the sake of sheer wonder, bliss or joy. Treat all of life a bit like a game. And most of all, don’t take life too seriously. Have fun in this mystery!”
